Hard work…

I am not very happy with the angel nest I sewed… I used three layers of fabrics (dry knit, quilted and velours).

Thick enough to survive in the middle of Russia in winter I guess, but bloody hard to sew! I broke 2 needles, and I am a bit desappointed by the finitions I made…

I sewed also a little monster to play with, easilly removable from the angel nest if needed (Yes, I stole your idea Adeline, without any shame!!)

Pfffff… I may try again this pattern one day, but not with such thick fabrics, that’s for sure!

For the swap with Sandra from Scupt’Art, I sewed a sarouel for her little daughter.

First, here is the sarouel.

In black linen with red cotton flowers. I used a red waistcloth and 2 big wood pearls to attach it

Then, to go with the sarouel, here come a cute ladybird…

… on a red appron:

Red is my favorite color, and I hope you like it too Sandra!

I really enjoyed sewing them. The pattern and tutorial are very easy to follow. I recommend them!!

Between some surfing, house cleaning, sailing, drinking, food shopping, yoga… I found a bit of time for some sewing! I had to, I have a lot of to sew before flying to France at the end of the week (ouououhhhhouh, I am sooooo excited to be in holiday soooon!!)

First, I swapped with her : a sarouel for her 2 year-old daughter vs.  gorgeous necklaces…

Have a look on her website, she is really talented, generous (3 necklaces, that’s crazy!) and on top of all, she comes from the same region as me in France (Isere represent!)

(And she still has some beautiful necklaces to swap!!)

I haven’t finish the sarouel yet, but here some bit of pieces:

(I hope your daughter likes red, Sandra…)

Then, an sarouel for a little girl called Eirin: brown, pink and purple, with a little  whirligig, very girly!

And last but not least, a little “turbulette”  for a 4 month-old baby boy, in brown velours fabric.

(I am not quite sure how you call a “turbulette”  in English? Angel nest? Baby sleeping bag?? Please advise!)

So, you reckon I had a busy week end?

First, you can play for the 1st year anniversary of  Olele’s blog and discover her necklaces and other handmade fabric crafts.

Then, you can have a look here. It is an australian based compagny who makes gorgeous hand print fabrics.  I went crazy for this one especially:

And to conclude, click here and have a laugh.  It is the blog of a french comic illustrator and it has been translated into English.

It is really good fun, and a way to get a taste of French humour (What?? Sorry, I have to disagree, French CAN be funny sometime… !!!)

What’s new today?

This time, I try to sew a trouser… And the result is not too bad!

I slightly  completly changed the pattern in order to avoid all the hard work (like sewing a zip and that kind of crasy stuffs!). All sweet!

This pants will travel a bit and should land in the mail box of my friend Estelle in new Caledonia.

And yes, it is always sunny like that in New Zealand!

French Mustard “De Dijon”

It was love at the first sight with this lovely mustard yellow yarn at Spotlight.

I had a first impulse purchase for 3 wool balls and made a very long scarf for winter (because it is freezing here in winter! … and also because I just begin to knit and I don’t know how to knit something else but rectangular piece of wool). I knitted with some logs of wood I found in the forest my 12.5″ needles. I love these needles because I knit very very fast with them…

Ahem… in short, here is the scarf:

And then, I came back to Spotlight two weeks after, and… big drama… no more of this lovely mustard yellow yarn (I knew I should have bought 20 wool ball straight away, I knew it!!! ). Depressed as you can imagine, as was about to give up and go out to forget my sadness with a Samboca bottle when I suddenly discovered, at the bottom of the display unit, 2 forlorn wood balls just waiting for me!!! How lucky I am??  Are you all jealous now??

So, I wanted to knit a wool hat, but after a few researches, it appears that you have to use barbarian tools so called  “circular needle”, and be able to read hieroglyph such as “Row 11: P1, * K1, YO, K2, Slip1, K2tog, PSSO, K2, YO, K1, P1, repeat from * across”. Help, I don’t have my Champollion translator!

So, I think I need a bit more time here…

And I will come back to you in a few months with my yellow hat, I promise (I have to speed, winter is coming soon!)

I didn’t talk to you yet about “Les P’tits Grain de Mais”. It is one of my favorite French sewing blogs.  She sews beautifull clothes mainly for children. Her fabric choices, her patterns, and her creativity are amazing.

I went crazy for her awesome sarouel for kids:

Sarouel Les p'tis Grains de Mais

Sarouel Les p

And, kindly, she put a tutorial on her website. So I had to try! The tutorial is very easy to follow. I love the pleats and the fit of the fabric.

My only change was to put a waistcloth rather than an elastic. So it can be adjusted more easily.

My Man (who usually find everything I sew “strange”), really likes it this time, and I have now to sew one for his  goddaughter. I was thinking about using velours fabric this time. Any advise?
