Are you game to play ?

I am away the next 15 days… So, to make you wait, what about a little game?

To participate, it is easy, just let a comment on my blog. You can talk about anything you want: for example, share a  knitting or sewing tips, tell me a bit more about you (and your blog, if you have one), propose a tutorial, a recipe, or even a funny story…

I will simply draw a name when I am back (around the 15th of June)!

What could you win??

 A flower-necklace

And a “happy sewing” kit including a set of fabrics, ribbons …

 …  buttons and accessories …

I swaped with Carole.

She wanted birth clothes for her baby boy due for August. In return, I will receive a beautiful “Funny Bag” bag and its matching hairband.

I had a huge pressure, as Carole sews beautifull clothes and accessories!! A huge pressure, and no inspiration at all for at least 2 weeks… then thankfully, one night, it suddenly clicked!

Regarding her latest creations, she seems to like brown and cream colors, dots, natural fabrics and stars.

Shhhuuuut, for the moment, it is all secret…I promise I will show you as soon as she get her package.

Good luck with your pregnancy Carole, I hope it will all go well.

Take care!

What can you do with fabric scraps?

A lot, actually…

Every dressmaker has at least a full bag of fabric scraps waiting no one know what! Adele had a very clever idea, and suggested to create crafts with fabric scraps. And I was on board for the challenge… With a lot, lot of inspiration!

With an entire bag full of scraps, I had plenty of fabrics to work with.

“The Scrap-Necklace”

  • Fabric scraps, at least 5*5 cm pieces
  • ribbon scraps
  • wool scraps

Draw petal shapes on the fabric with a fabric pencil (7 long petals, and 5 small ones). Using the cord stitch of your sewing machine (or the 3 lines stitch), sew along the pencil line. Shear along the stitch line.

Create a flower shape with the longest petals and sew them together. Do the same with the smallest petals, and sew all the petals together. On the back of the flower, sew the ribbons and wool scratches.

The scrap-headband

  • Fabric Scraps (5*5 cm)

1/ For the headband : Stitch the fabric scraps to form the headband (Lengh around 1.5 m). The secret is to put some stretch fabric scraps! And I used a velcro round to attach the heaband.

2/ Sew a flower (Same as above). Stitch or glu on the headband.

If the headband does not suit you , you can do a hairclip:

The Scrap-hairclip

  • Cardboard or plastic board (10*10 cm)
  • Fabric’s glue
  • Very easy to do…

Draw a flower (or any other shape on the cardboard). Glu the fabric on the wrong side of the cardboard. Shear following the flower shape. Do 2 little holes with a needle. Insert the hair clip.

    I love scraps!!!

I took part of the swap proposed by Les Doigts Dans La Confiture on the theme : “a Sweet Bag and its matching necklace”

A bit more about my swapper…

    She likes…

    … natural colors and fabrics…

… brown amber, and bronze …

    … and original details …

… I WISH she will like what I have made for her…

The tutorial of the sweet bag came from here (it is in English for once, and very easy to sew).

In response to Mademoiselle Nuna , I have made this little coin purse following  her tutorial. (If you are interested by a translation in English, just ask)

It was very funny to do, and quick (less than half an hour actually).

The metallic clasp and fabric came from Spotlight (as usual!). The clasp was expensive, so I am not quite sure it is worth it…

Not much to show you today, but a simple pink scarf made for a friend’s birthday.

The idea was to look like a “cheche” (a moroccan scarf) … Yes, I am into Marocco inspired clothes at the moment!

The fabric came from Spotlight, and was $1 the meter, really good bargain…

    Winter…

With winter coming slowly (but surely!), I needed to get prepared to fight the freezing South wind that will start blowing soon… An what could be better than sewing a warm and styling hat??

So I opted for the famous Mel’Hat! It is really easy to do (less than an hour, yes, it is awesome!!). I wanted to do it for a long time, but what a better day than her blog 1-year anniversary to do it?

Fabric: Black felted wool and gray flannel from Spotlight

And look at my gift…The tutorial of  the-melhat  in English, s’il vous plait!

It is a French proverb for the month of May (we have a proverb for every month in France) which I could translate by :” In May, do whatever you want to do!”

And it is exactly what I am doing, to follow this advice given by Un matin

Again, I used the same pattern  I used to sew this top and this top, but this time, for a black top (What an innovation!!!)

(Nop, I am not yet bored to sew the same top ever and ever again!)

This time, I used a very thin cotton fabrics, a bit harder to sew.

I used a green ribbon for the armhole and, that’s about all!

Fabric: Light black cotton and green and gray ribbon from Spotlight

My little tip: Use a very thin needle to sew this type of fabric (7/10) otherwise, it can quickly become a bloodshed…(Yes, of course, it happened to me!)

It is all about bags today!

    (don’t ask me why…)

First, you have until the 24th of May to visit the blog of Coton and Champignons and let her a little comment for her birthday:

Then, you can have a look to Papoose website. It is an Australian based compagny who sells everything you need for felting as weel as a range of crafts made with felted wool. It is really something I would love to do, but it seems quite hard work!

You find also on their site a lot of information about felting. Definitly a must-go!

The other day, I was surfing on the net from sewing blogs to sewing blogs (there are so many amazing blogs these days!), when I found the fabulous site of Loloche. I especially found his fabric flower really cute, and luckily, she has done a tutorial!

So here is my first one, the first of a lot of I think, because it is really quick and easy to do, and you can use it to accessorize everything.

This one will go on a bag I am currently sewing… I will talk to you about it in a next post, I promise.

I bought this wool 4 months ago, and tried ever since to knit it with every size of needles I could find. The results were all horrible, so I finally decided to use it as ribbon… It worked much much better!
